Part-time Animal Keeper
Part-Time (32 Hours/week) Animal Keeper Position

Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, & Friday from 9-5PM
We are looking for a qualified, honest, and reliable part time Animal Keeper to join our team. The part-time animal keeper will assist in monitoring and caring for our diverse collection of amphibians, reptiles, fish, and invertebrates.
Animal Keeper responsibilities:

Participate in daily husbandry of animals including diet preparation, feeding, cleaning, enclosure maintenance, monitoring animal health and behavior, and record keeping.

Maintain feeding records, water quality analysis, and fill out medical sheets.

Strong communication with lead keeper and other animal keepers about the status of animals and enclosures.

Complete assignments including daily tasks, projects, enrichment, training, capture, restraint, and administration of medical treatments.

Help with opening and closing procedures of the center such as unlocking Turtle Haven, turning on ambient music, turning on/off appropriate lights, locking and securing animal area doors.

Keep work areas clean including panel hallways, prep room, and back room.

Provide guests with a positive experience by being friendly, providing information, answering questions, and at the direct request of a supervisor participate in feeding demonstrations or keeper talks.

Submit requests for exhibit maintenance/changes, animal area enhancements, husbandry changes, or diet alterations to lead keeper for approval.

Train and closely supervise interns and volunteers.

Maintain and report supply inventory to the lead keeper.

Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills:
-
Experienced in reptile/amphibian/fish/invertebrate husbandry.

Must be ultra-observant and able to manage animals without being squeamish.

Hardworking and driven by passion.

Strong observational skills

Not afraid to get dirty.

Must be able to lift a minimum of 50-pounds off the ground.

Able to handle animals safely without adding injury to the animal, yourself, and the
-
people around you.

Must be able to work independently and with others.

Preferred Skills:
-
A degree in animal science, zoology, biology, or similar
-
Three or more years of experience in amphibian, reptiles, fish, and invertebrate
-
husbandry at a professional level.
-
Experience with venomous reptiles.
-
Experience with large and potentially dangerous reptiles.
