RIVERSIDE RAMBLE
SUMMER PROGRAMS
RIVERSIDE RAMBLE SUMMER PROGRAMS for children ages 6 -12 is back for 2023! We are super excited for another six weeks of slithering fun this summer! Programs begin at 9 AM and end at 12 PM. All of the programs offered will incorporate a wide variety of live animals! Children will learn about amphibians, reptiles, and invertebrates through various games, crafts, and hands-on activities. Each program will be split into two groups, ages 6 - 9, and ages 10 -12 (there is a maximum of 12 children for each age group).
Week 1
July 10 – July 14

Life Aquatic
Dive in to world of aquatic reptiles and more! We’ll learn about how certain species of amphibians, reptiles, and invertebrates have evolved and adapted to their aquatic lifestyles. We’ll also meet a bunch of aquatic animals that call Riverside Reptiles their home.

Week 2
July 17 – July 21
The Good, the Bad, and The Not So Common
Well, there’s no such thing as a “bad” animal, but some species can be bad for the ecosystem if they don’t belong there, like invasive species. There are also introduced species that are “good” for the ecosystem. And then there are species that are becoming rare and endangered. In this program we’ll learn about (and meet) amphibians, reptiles, and invertebrates from all of these categories.
Week 3
July 24 – July 28
Prehistoric Reptiles!
Wouldn’t it be cool to meet a Sarcosuchus or an Archelon? Well, unfortunately 40-foot long crocodiles or 15-foot long sea turtles are extinct, but we can meet their relatives! In this program we’ll explore the prehistoric past of reptiles that lived millions of years ago and their closest ancestors that live today.
Week 4
July 31 – August 4
Who lives here?
Deserts, Rainforests, Savannas, Wetlands, and more! What amphibians, reptiles, and invertebrates are found in these ecosystems? In which type of habitat do they dwell? How have they adapted to their surroundings? We’ll answer these questions and more as we figure out who lives here?
Week 5
August 7 – August 11
Now You See Me, Now You Don’t
Camouflage is essential to animal’s survival; but why are some animals so much better at it than others? Does camouflage help predators, prey, or both? In this program we’ll learn about how some amphibians, reptiles, and invertebrates virtually disappear into their surroundings.
Week 6
August 14 – August 18
Jeepers Creepers
This week we’ll meet some unusual animals that give some people the creeps, but if you’re like me you’ll find them fascinating! Why are people scared of amphibians, reptiles, and bugs? What myths and legends perpetuated these fears? We’ll have a great time learning about, and meeting these “creepy critters”!
